I am always giving couple of question to a person who asking me for a recomendation or building his new system so I can offer him/her the best what suits he/she needs:
- Whats your budget?
- What will be the main purpose of using it? (games, video editing/picture editing, anything else or combination)
- How often you exchange the PC completly?
Thanks for answering so I can make some offers to you.
There is no difference between 800Mhz DDR2 and 1066DDR3.
The DDR3 has usually quite high timing yet making it slower.
In the range of the Intel processors you thinking about and they respective pricing the AMD Phenom II X2 550 would be faster at same price.
Just look around for benchmarks.
I just checked more closely and carefully the new shadowing system and it produces jaggies which I never noticed before in the older version of LFS.
Nothing major as its really hardly noticeable. Using latest Catalyst driver (9.6).Tried also the previous version of the driver.
Interesingly the FPS differens for example in BL with view on wheels is sometimes up to 20FPS between the old 0.5W and 0.5Z13.
Seems there is still room for improvement in the code to get more out of it.
Dont play with words. The future is probably only digital. That would be useless discussion anyway because both of us can have on this different view.
Oversharpenning sucks I agree but if it decent and made right and sometimes only on partial area of the picture it looks as good as on screen as on prints.
Partially. Only when you print.
I did not so far so for me it matters how it looks in screen as for my friends so I dont care how it would looks when printed.
Yes, 450D has sharpenning setting inside the menu.
The way for best sharper photo especially on 450D is the RAW. JPEG files are quite soft and when you crank up the sharpness for JPEG it looks bad then.
Also there can be really huge difference between the sharpness when you use prime or zoom at same focal lenght. Also there is big difference between the consumer lenses and prosumer lenses like Canon L lenses.
I see quite big differences in sharpness between the 50mm 1.8 and 18-55mm II IS at 50mm and same aperture.
Don,
nice photos. I see you really did a big progress.
I would not really agree here.
Put all the AI on track and then its not that light anymore.Or when someone have all A64 X2 3800+ and you are behind the whole field at start. The second core on this old processor which is not the fastest one could help if multithreading would be used in LFS.
Yeh, it should be clean here I agree and added a piece of crap too but there must be something wrong from other side as well if people post these message a lot sometimes. Try to think about it as well. Lack of comunication is the worst thing which can happend - proved. No matter if its in game development like LFS where the comunication have been much better before then now or in business for example.
I was always so much impressed by what Scawen and whole team around LFS achieved. Kudos to them for that but the other thing which I am not really happy about how more and more the LFS is draw apart from the technicall progress in game industry. For example when LFS started with DX7 there was not much more around but now. The gap is getting bigger and bigger.
Should shut my mouth though
Keep LFS dev your good work but start adding something more...
Not exactly. I am quite sure I can see the difference between 30 or 60 frames. Its the smoothness which is totally different.
Another thing is that human eye does not work on FPS basis but in totally different way so trying to say simply that human eye can not see more then 30 fps is irrelevant. Just use a bit of Mr. Google my friend
Get the 4870.
Its more powerfull then GTS250 abd dont worry about the 550W psu. It will run without the problem both of the cards. I build several system and always trzing to suggest best options for my friends.
If you want I can prove you with some links with tests.
Just wonder why they did not accept another offer from Skoda like a few years ago for a real car in game for free. Yeh I know it was just Skoda Octavia but better to start somewhere then nowhere. They postponed it becuase they wanted to focus on something else. Its all the time like that.
I know Scawen do great job but I bet he can do much better as Eric could as well.
Kindna offtopic the above from me but when I am hearing more and more from old hardcore players that things with LFS go slower and slower its really sad :-(.
Thats why I wanted open it rather for open discussion then coming with some argument for or aganst together.
My argument for would be better framerates at start with full field for example, adding more phzsic calculations hence allowing the modulation going further and deeper.
¨
On the other example like was mentioned already above is overhead for single CPU. Or if developed further only ad multuthreading it would raise the hardware requirements.Hence some people might quite or it might interesting for less people. Alo of option for and against.
Well years passing and sometimes after a big break things might change rapidly. Not something you will really change. I have been off LFS for quite a long time as well working on my career and a lot of things have really changed. Not all changes that I would welcome when I started looking around again few days back and reading the forum and all the changes.
But you and me will have to adjust again. Its a never ending story with LFS and his long development but bet we can quickly learn all again and kick the ass of all the kids on track again.
P.S.:Scawen good job so far over the past years but you can do better
